Boredom can lead to a variety of outcomes, and while they aren't necessarily always bad, I can trace back the cause of a lot of bad decisions to boredom.
One such awful decision came yesterday when I downloaded the ten day free trial for World of Warcraft. Awful decision indeed. Don't play WoW. Don't even play MMOs.
The extent of my MMO experience two days ago was Runescape, which while obviously shit, deserves more credit than it gets, in my opinion. Having only settled for that in the past, the mere contrast between the graphics of the games was enough to hook me. Yet it delivered more.
It's it's own little world. This certainly isn't a foreign concept to one who has played as many games as I have, each with unique and often expansive virtual realities, but unlike the others, this one is alive. There's always something to do. I can fight things to get better at fighting things, fish to get better at fishing things, complete quests, earn money to buy armour (yes, british), etc. etc. The world is massive, you move at your own pace, and there's constant development. You can always do more, you can always try to be better.
Kind of like..... the real world!
However, it's safe to say that most WoW players aren't as addicted to reality as they are to this game. WoW has a widely known reputation for its addictive qualities, and I sure can feel them already. I played until 2 AM yesterday, and spent a good six hours today. When I went to sleep last night, I saw my character walking through the forest. I woke up this morning and almost drifted unconsciously to my MacBook. It's addiction, there's no doubt. Addiction of a strange and powerful nature. I'm going to sacrifice myself to this addiction, dive into the world of Azeroth for ten days, and see if I can come out intact.
Why didn't I write this yesterday?
I was busy playing WoW.
My character is a human warrior named Valgran. I played into the whole fantasy bull shit and made something fantasy sounding like that. All RPGs with names and stuff like that can probably be traced back to the Lord of the Rings, which can be traced back to Norse mythology. Because of this I made my guy super Aryan, with long blond hair and a scandinavian looking beard.
Character Name Valgran
Race Human
Class Warrior
Level 10
Professions Skinning, Leatherworking, Fishing, Cooking
I'd write more, but I'm gonna go play WoW instead.

leg, go fuck yourself.
On the topic of the actual blog, i have never understood the allure of MMORPG's. I have played my fair share of them, from free shit such as runescape, to higher quality free shit like silkroad and a few others one of my ex's made me play. I have also played some you have to pay for, such as guild wars. All of these that i have played i have played because IRL friends play them. I saw it as more of a social experience than a gaming one. I havge played MMO's that wetrent so much RPG oriented, like warrock and crossfire, and even puzzle pirates. I liked all of these far more than i liked the classic mmo's.
Guess the genre just doesnt suit me.
That said, then upcoming Star Wars mmo interests me greatly.

Yet another soul lost to it. My fucking friend wouldn't hang out with me because he wanted to stay home and play WoW. Needless to say, I hate that game.

I am pretty dang impressed with it, but the point is to go in for a little while and then try to get myself out, which I want to see if I have the willpower to do.
